Category Archives: Roller surface

This is the surface the roller is used on. It will be strongly related to the nap size.

Microstripe Blue Roller 12 mm Nap

The Microstripe blue has a 12 mm microfiber pile and gives a beautiful finish. The fabric is the same as the 9 mm version with the yellow and orange stripe.  The 12 mm holds a bit more paint and the finish is slightly less smooth.

Micro fibre fabrics are only to be used for water based paints.

This fabric ( white with blue line) will be replaced by the microfiber blue ( white with speckled blue) which is identical but has a different colour pattern.

Colour pattern:

  • White with blue line ( to be replaced over time by the identical Micro fibre blue)
  • White with speckled blue (identical to the above apart from the colours)

Available Sizes:

  • 270 mm -11″
  • 360 mm -14″

Microstripe 2 Green Rollers – 12 mm Nap

The high quality Microstripe 2 Green 12 mm with Teflon ™ surface protector is one of the newer fabrics available. It is the first synthetic roller that behaves a little like lambs wool. The secret of this roller is very fine poly-amide coated with Teflon ™ surface protector, specially spun and twisted.  In other words: a very nice finish, good coverage, easy to wash out and exceptional absorption and release of paint. The coated poly-amid rollers are strong performers in the market. Only available from ROLON and its retail customers.

Teflon TM is a trademark of The Chemours Company FC

Goldstripe Rollers 12 mm Nap

These high quality, unrivalled rollers have strong support in the market. An exclusive German produced fabric, made from a continuous poly-amide fibre to reduce lint. Specially twisted during weaving and partly opened up to increase the paint holding capacity. Poly amide is best for water-based paint because it’s affinity to water. Polyester has an affinity to oil based solvents and the special polyester backing of this fabric makes it also suitable for oil-based paints.

Some experienced painters who look after the rollers use the worn-down rollers for glossing doors.

For more detailed information on the fabric properties and performance see our Goldstripe 12mm Fabric Information sheet.

The previous version of this fabric was made from a discontinuous (called stapled) fibre.  This version is now available again and has 2 yellow stripes.  We realise that some painters prefer the original fabric which seem to have a slightly better productivity due to the lager number of “fibre ends”  inside the nap. The materials in both fabrics are identical.  Stapled fabrics always need to be used for undercoat first until all loose fibres are removed. They are a logical result of the way the fabric is constructed and produced.

Goldstripe 12mm Nap

Microstripe Rollers 9mm Nap

This roller is an excellent high quality micro-fibre roller for the walls. The roller is only to be used for water based paint. It leave a better finish then the Goldstripe but you need more time to wash out the roller. Specially popular with painters who service the high end of the market.

The roller is also available in 12 mm ( Microfiber blue and it’s earlier version Microstripe blue). The 9 mm microfiber fabric has its own identifying colours since the nap size is different than the 12 mm microfibre.

The roller is also excellent for sealing Gyprock walls and large contractors sometimes use the roller for glossing ( acrylic gloss!)  doors. Do not load up to heavy if you use it for acrylic gloss. Of course coating needs to be tipped off with a fine brush.

This is a roller with many qualities and value for money.

Royal Rollers 7mm Nap

The Royal rollers are designed for varnish, but work well for semi gloss and are excellent rollers for fine epoxy jobs. They hold more paint than the velour rollers and are a good alternative for painters who prefer a longer nap for gloss.

The rollers are made from high quality lint free fabric and are excellent for delicate epoxy jobs. For standard epoxy jobs however we suggest a longer nap like the economical Vestan Yellow or Vestal White or the lint free Nylon white.

Gloss Velour Rollers 4mm Nap

These high quality Gloss Velour Rollers with 4mm nap are the modern high quality alternative to the mohair roller. Work the roller in and you have a lint free roller that gives you an excellent finish. No need to brush off. This roller  is a pressure release roller like the mohair type gloss rollers . The backing from our velour roller is cotton. Velour is a woolen fibre and mohair is made from goat hair.

Some painters will still brush the finished surface off with a very soft Purdy Syntox brush, depending on the requirements of the finish. You also could use a 7 mm Royal roller if you want a longer nap.
